Report: Ipswich Town in 4-club chase for 'important' Middlesbrough star, Boro want at least £4m

One Middlesbrough ace is attracting interest from clubs in the Premier League and in Europe, as the summer transfer window approaches.

Middlesbrough, despite many writing them off, are still in the mix for promotion this season, as they reside six points adrift of the top six.

With 18 points still to play for, it’s certainly a surmountable advantage, though, they’ll likely have to win at least five of the remaining six fixtures to stand a chance.

As it stands, Boro will have to delay transfer plans until their destiny is revealed, as they could yet end up in the Premier League.

That will likely have a bearing on potential departures, too, and one Middlesbrough player has just been linked with a move away from Riverside Stadium.

Since joining Boro from Queens Park Rangers last summer, Seny Dieng has impressed in between the sticks.

The 29-year-old has displayed great comfort with the ball at his feet and that trait will indeed attract interest from a number of potential suitors.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United are eying his services to replace backup goalkeeper Loris Karius, whose deal expires in the summer.

Further, Crystal Palace and fellow Championship outfit Ipswich Town have also been linked with a move for Dieng whilst Sevilla are keeping tabs on him.

Victor Orta, the LaLiga’s clubs sporting director, was formerly with Leeds and will be familiar with the Senegalese shot-stopper.

Middlesbrough must back Michael Carrick

Since Michael Carrick arrived on Teesside in October 2022, the former Manchester United assistant has had to contend with a number of key departures.

Last season’s top scorer Chuba Akpom was sold to Ajax at the start of the season whilst the club sanctioned a mid-season sale for Morgan Rogers, who joined Aston Villa.

After finishing fourth last term, with many expecting them to challenge the top two this year, it’s clear those exits have been detrimental to promotion hopes.

So if the club have aspirations to return to the illustrious Premier League, they must back Carrick and reject any potential forthcoming offers for Dieng in the summer.

Indeed, that’s not to suggest Dieng would be willing to leave the club, anyhow, having only joined nine months ago.

If Middlesbrough do pull off the unlikely and manage to go up this season via the playoffs, they’ll be in a much stronger position in negotiations.
