Agent of Klopp-like manager reportedly on Liverpool radar now admits Anfield job vacancy is 'interesting'

Liverpool are having an extremely busy end to the season, not only on the pitch, but also behind the scenes.

While the Reds coaches and playing staff are fighting for the Premier League title and the Europa League, the club’s owners are putting together their post-Jurgen Klopp setup.

Klopp shocked the football world earlier this year when he announced he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.

Since the Liverpool manager’s announcement, the Reds and FSG have been making changes in order to maintain high-level continuity.

For instance, Michael Edwards has become FSG’s CEO of Football, while Richard Hughes is set to become Liverpool’s Sporting Director.

However, the biggest change – Klopp’s successor – hasn’t been secured yet, and with Xabi Alonso set to stay at Bayer Leverkusen, Liverpool have some thinking to do.

We’ve had links between the Reds and the likes of Ruben Amorim and Roberto De Zerbi, but now another name has begun to do the rounds.

Links emerge between Liverpool and Thiago Motta

The manager in question is Bologna’s Thiago Motta, who is quickly making a name for himself as one of Serie A’s best up-and-coming coaches.

The 41-year-old has taken a modest Bologna outfit and taken them to the brink of Champions League qualification this season.

Dean Jones recently told GiveMeSport that Motta is “intriguing” to the Liverpool and FSG hierarchies, though he stressed the Italo-Brazilian is currently an “outsider”.

Now, Motta’s agent has spoken out about links between his client and the likes of Liverpool, admitting that the Reds vacancy is “interesting” and “highly coveted”.

However, Alessandro Canovi wasn’t speaking just about Liverpool, but Bayern Munich and Barcelona too.

Canovi, speaking to Calciomercato, didn’t give anything away regarding Motta’s potential next destination, but he seemed to keep the door open on a future move.

What has Alessandro Canovi said about Liverpool and Thiago Motta?

He said: “The situation of the big names?

“The confirmation of Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen has opened up several important candidatures for Liverpool and Bayern Munich. And there’s Barcelona.

“They are three interesting and very coveted benches right now.

“At the moment the only fact is that Motta has an expiring contract with Bologna.

“Will he stay at Bologna? I can’t say, because I have no negotiations with anyone. You can’t talk about things that aren’t in place.”

Motta’s Bologna currently sit fourth in Serie A, five points clear of fifth-placed Roma with eight games left to play, and edging closer to Champions League qualification.

What could Liverpool fans expect from Thiago Motta?

In terms of Motta’s style of play, Foot Italia recently described it as ‘fluid and free-flow’, giving his teams ‘creativity and vitality’.

Former England manager and Serie A legend Fabio Capello also told Gazzetta dello Sport earlier this year that Motta has ‘Spanish influence’ like Klopp and other current world-class managers.

Although he may be an outsider for Liverpool, Motta certainly looks like a good shout for the Reds. Let’s see what happens in the coming months.
