'Pretty special': Ethan Ampadu says Leeds player will often sing Marching on Together walking out before games

Ethan Ampadu has shared what Archie Gray will often do while walking out onto the Elland Road pitch ahead of Leeds United games.

Elland Road has been a pretty special place to be this season. Daniel Farke’s side have put themselves right in the mix for automatic-promotion out of the Championship at the first time of asking.

Of course, Leeds have been particularly successful in front of their own fans this season. The Whites are the only team in the division who remain unbeaten at home this term, winning 16 of their 20 home games.

Going to Elland Road has rarely been an easy task over the last five or six years in particular. But there have been some remarkable moments this term, perhaps most notably after Leeds came from behind to beat Leicester City.

Ethan Ampadu says Leeds teammate sings Marching on Together before games

Obviously, the games will kick off after the fans have belted out a rendition of Marching on Together as the players walk out onto the pitch. It certainly seems to help build the atmosphere ahead of the game.

And it seems that some of the players relish that moment as well. Speaking to Michael Bridges, Ethan Ampadu was discussing the atmosphere at Leeds in comparison with some of the other grounds he has played at. And he suggested that one of his teammates will often sing as they walk out onto the pitch.

“It’s definitely up there,” he said.

“One of the best atmospheres that I’ve played in. Everyone knows Marching on Together when you walk out’s pretty special. Even Archie sings it when he’s walking out.

“Little things like that. We feel it and it makes match days pretty special.”

Whites will hope Archie Gray sticks around for years to come

Archie Gray has definitely embraced being a Leeds first-team player this season. Quite remarkably, he went into this campaign still awaiting his senior debut despite being someone supporters were excited about for some time.

The 18-year-old has adapted to life in the Championship brilliantly, looking confident at both right-back and central midfield.

Leeds fans will desperately hope that Gray enjoys a very long career at Elland Road, because he looks to be heading right to the very top.
