N.J. woman dies in 3-car crash on highway

A 29-year-old woman from South Jersey was killed Wednesday afternoon when her car crashed head-on with another vehicle on the Black Horse Pike in Atlantic County, authorities said.

Karina Castillo, of Pine Hill in Camden County, was driving a Honda sedan westbound on the pike when her car made contact with a Chevrolet SUV, Hamilton Township police said Thursday. The contact forced Castillo’s car into the eastbound lanes, where her vehicle collided with an oncoming Ford sedan, police said.

Castillo was pronounced dead at the scene. Both drivers of the Ford and Chevrolet were taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City for non-life-threatening injuries. Two adult passengers of the Ford were also taken to the same hospital for similar injuries, police said.

A juvenile was brought to Cooper University Medical Center in Camden for injuries that were deemed non-life-threatening. Police did not say in which vehicle the juvenile was a passenger.

An investigation into the crash was ongoing as of Thursday, police said.

Police were called to the area of the Black Horse Pike and High Bank Road around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday.

The crash shut down part of the pike in Hamilton Township in Atlantic County for several hours, diverting traffic onto other roads amid heavy rainfall that soaked New Jersey Wednesday. Police did not say if weather was considered a factor in the crash’s cause.
