Alan Brazil says 28-year-old Ange Postecoglou called ‘important’ is nowhere near good enough for Tottenham

TalkSPORT presenter Alan Brazil has now said a player who Ange Postecoglou loves is not good enough for Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs have come back from the international break having taken four points from their two games against Luton Town and, more recently, West Ham.

Ange Postecoglou is going into the Premier League run-in with a virtually fully fit squad to select from now Micky van de Ven has returned.

The Dutchman slotted back into the starting XI on Tuesday night against the Hammers and got a huge amount of praise from the Spurs fans for his display.

It was Timo Werner and Brennan Johnson who teamed up for Spurs’ goal at the London Stadium inside the first four minutes.

The well-worked team move saw the Welshman slot home an inviting cross from Werner – a move which even had – the typically calm – Postecoglou celebrating on the touchline.

However, Spurs still find themselves trailing in the race for the top four with Aston Villa holding a two-point cushion – having played an extra game.

And it seems one player, in particular, is not exactly enthusing the TalkSPORT presenter having watched him this season under Postecoglou.

Tottenham player slammed not good enough despite returning five goal contributions

With almost all of his player now back from their respective injuries, Postecoglou has had some tough choices to make.

The decisions up top may have been made slightly easier with Richarlison seemingly not quite back to full fitness, despite what Postecoglou may have said in a recent press conference.

This has seen Heung-min Son start through the middle providing an extra spot on the wing to be filled by one of Werner, Johnson or Dejan Kulusevski.

The latter of which did not start against the Hammers having been dragged off at half-time in the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on the weekend.

And even when he did come on against West Ham, it was apparent his captain was left furious with something he done in his 20 minute display.

However, it is Werner who the TalkSPORT host has claimed is not good enough to be playing for Tottenham.

“[Take off] Any of the wide players. Any one of the wide players… take off,” he said after Maddison was withdrawn in the West Ham draw.

“I’m sorry, but Werner for me may as well sit here [in the studio]. Sorry, I don’t want to be nasty, just come and sit here. Nowhere near good enough.”

Postecoglou remains pleased with Werner ahead of June decision

Werner has now returned five goal contributions for Tottenham since arriving on loan in the January window.

Tottenham have until 14 June to make the call on whether they want to bring in Werner permanently from RB Leipzig with the player said to be in favour of the move.

And having been given a lot of opportunities since landing back in London, Postecoglou has shared his delight with how Werner is performing.

Prior to the game against Aston Villa last month, Postecoglou said: “I think he’s been really important. If we hadn’t brought him in there would have been far more of a burden on the other players, especially with Sonny away.

“We threw him straight in. He’s made an impact but I think he can get even better.”
