'Has to be': Darren Bent makes Cole Palmer claim after Chelsea hat-trick in 4-3 win vs Manchester United

Chelsea’s strange league season was summed up perfectly in tonight’s 4-3 win at home to Manchester United.

Chelsea were involved in a seven-goal thriller on Thursday in the Premier League, which had so many different swings of momentum. At the end of the night, the team can be happy with a three points that’s lifted them to 10th in the division table.

The Blues were sharp out the gate at Stamford Bridge, racing into a 2-0 lead inside 20 minutes because of goals from Conor Gallagher and Cole Palmer. However, it was another capitulation from Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes both scored for the visitors before half-time to make it 2-2 at the break. Then, Garnacho’s second goal in the second-half looked like earning Man United the victory.

However, a crazy evening ended with Palmer scoring twice deep into stoppage time to overturn a 3-2 deficit into a 4-3 success. It was a first senior career hat-trick for 21-year-old superstar Palmer amid the chaos.

Cole Palmer the Chelsea saviour

Palmer’s outrageous debut season in Chelsea colours is showing no signs of slowing down.

He showed his usual calmness from the penalty spot to put away two more spot-kicks. Also, his deflected shot won the game when the match was past 100 minutes on the clock.

On top of his clutch goals tonight, Palmer was the one individual on the pitch showing the most composure and quality in a frantic top-flight match. His teammates so often look to him for inspiration, and it’s crazy how many times this year he’s stepped up.

Darren Bent reaction

Pundit Darren Bent jumped straight on social media to give an instant reaction to the bonkers win for Chelsea over rivals Man United in the league.

He did give a special shoutout to Blues match-winner Palmer for his heroics at the Bridge this evening. He’s insistitng the left-footed youngster is included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the Euros this summer.

“BEST GAME OF THE SEASON. That is why we love football. Cole Palmer has to be on that plane to the Euros,” Bent wrote via X.
