Sullivan confidant responds to exciting new claim about free agent German

A source close to majority owner David Sullivan has responded after Thomas Tuchel was once again linked with the West Ham job.

The big question over whether David Moyes will remain at West Ham will not be answered until the end of the season.

But as things stand the manager’s future at West Ham is now very much in doubt beyond this summer.

Journalist Graeme Bailey recently claimed there is only one way Moyes will remain as Hammers boss next season.

And Moyes himself spoke out publicly insisting it is he who is stalling on signing a West Ham contract extension.

A host of managers have been linked as potential replacements. And the owners will hand responsibility to technical director Tim Steidten on that front should Moyes depart.

West Ham have been persistently linked with Steidten’s close friend and out-of-work compatriot Thomas Tuchel.

Now a David Sullivan confidant has responded to an exciting new claim about Tuchel taking over at West Ham.

A rumour emerged on popular West Ham forum KUMB yesterday claiming Tuchel has been lined up for the job.

But Sullivan confidant Sean Whetstone has poured cold water on the claims.

Although he did confirm West Ham have been in touch with Tuchel about the job in the past.

“Reports that Thomas Tuchel is being lined up to take over from David Moyes this summer are wide of the mark,” Whetstone said on X.

“The former Chelsea man rejected a past approach by West Ham prior to the appointment of David Moyes and sources close to the manager insist he has no interest or desire in managing the Hammers should the position be available.”

Journalist Bailey recently told Hammers News people should not underestimate the pulling power of Steidten and West Ham in getting Tuchel to the London Stadium.

So it remains to be seen whether Tuchel could be persuaded to replace Moyes should the Hammers hotseat be vacated.

Gary Neville also claimed last week people should not undersell ‘massive’ West Ham and believes the Hammers the Hammers will attract a top manager if Moyes’ departs.

Here’s a reminder of what Bailey had to say about the possibility of Tuchel joining West Ham.

“In a dream world he’d (Steidten) like Tuchel, who he’s close friends with. And some people would scoff at those types of links. But West Ham are a huge club in London, 60,000 fans. And they’ve got a squad that would appeal to a lot of people,” Bailey told Hammers News.

“West Ham have got some wonderful world class talent, Lucas Paqueta obviously I don’t think he’ll be with the club after the summer, but with the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus, Edson Alvarez – West Ham don’t need massive, massive surgery to be pushing Champions League.

“I don’t think it’s beyond the realms of fantasy that two or three very good signings and you could be pushing that top four realistically.”
