Eric Dier reveals what Ange Postecoglou did disappointed him before he left Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou did something which left Eric Dier disappointed before he left for Bayern Munich.

Over the last year, Tottenham have now seen two of their long standing members of the squad depart from the German giants.

Shortly after becoming the club’s record goalscorer, Harry Kane left the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in search of silverware.

The irony comes in Bayern having their worst season for an awful long time with the Bundesliga title now pretty much out of sight and only the Champions League to play for.

Alan Shearer has even weighed in on the England captain’s situation having left Tottenham as he found it difficult to contain his laughter.

Dier stuck around for a little bit longer than Kane did in the Postecoglou era, but it did not prove to be a successful time at the club for the defender.

Spurs allowed the 30-year-old to leave north London on loan in January, but Bayern have already confirmed that they will be making his stay permanent.

It does seem as if Dier has beenwarmly welcomed to Munich with the fans clearly pleased with the displays he has put on at the Allianz Arena.

Postecoglou’s public comments did not sit well with Eric Dier

Having been appointed in the summer, it became apparent fairly quickly that Dier was not going to be part of Postecoglou’s plans.

Micky van de Ven arrived during the Australian’s first transfer window and he has quickly become a fan favourite.

The 22-year-old has established himself as the starting centre-back alongside Cristian Romero in the Spurs backline.

And he has impressed across the Premier League having become the fastest ever player recorded in the English top flight.

Injury to the Dutchman and suspension to Romero saw Postecoglou look to full-backs Ben Davies and Emerson Royal to fill the void at centre-back.

This was as telling of a sign as Dier was ever going to get that he was not going feature heavily under Postecoglou.

However, the Australian went one further when he admitted he would still be comfortable selling Dier despite the club’s injury crisis.

Speaking to the media, Postecoglou replied with a very straightforward, “yes” when asked whether Spurs could afford to sell Dier in January.

And it seems that is a comment which did not go down well with Dier who spoke about it in an interview with The Athletic recently.

“I don’t like to say anything publicly if I haven’t said it to the person. It’s difficult to judge, I don’t know in what context he meant it.

“If he meant it in that way, it would be disappointing, purely because of the way I carried myself in my time there. I don’t know if he meant it that way or not.”

Postecoglou impressed by Dier’s replacement, Dragusin

Spurs actively looked to bring in a new centre-back over the January transfer window and they got their man in Radu Dragusin.

The Romanian turned down the opportunity to sign for Bayern and Napoli in favour of making the move to north London.

And it seems Postecoglou has been impressed with what he has seen so far from the 22-year-old.

“He’s had to be patient for his opportunity with Micky and Cristian being outstanding and one game a week. I thought he did well with his opportunity. I think he can bring us something different.”
