A comedian has spoken out about the type of women every single man from New York City actually wants to date, dubbing them “candid girlfriends” in a recent interview.
The internet is full of strange anecdotes to describe the type of person you are, much like the recent Golden Retriever boyfriend trend. The newest dating term might warrant some further explaining, given that it only applies to men in the Big Apple.
What is a candid girlfriend?
In a recent update on Subway Takes, comedian Stef Dag sat down with Kareem Rahma to talk about her perspective on the New York dating scene.
“All guys think they want to date the cool, hot, artsy, baddie girlfriend with like baby bangs and a bad father, but that’s actually not the case at all,” she explained. “What all guys in New York want is the ‘candid girlfriend’, you can trademark that.”
On what a candid girlfriend actually is, she continued: “Candid girlfriend is a girl who is like 5”5 and a half, naturally thin, mousy brown hair no longer than shoulder length. She’s like from New Hampshire and studied art history.
“I would say the biggest part of her personality is that she likes pomegranates and her boyfriend thinks that’s so quirky and adorable.”

Though the candid girlfriend is not one to draw attention, she constantly appears on her boyfriend’s Instagram.
“The candid girlfriend is the patient zero of the pick-me-girl,” she continued. “She is not even trying to be pick-me, she just authentically has nothing in her brain.”

Ironically, a lot of TikTok users could instantly relate to the term as they put forward celebrities like Suki Waterhouse and Emily Rudd as the perfect examples.
One person wrote: “Mousy brown hair no longer than shoulder length is so real.”
“She was picturing a specific girl in her head while she described the candid girlfriend,” another person wrote, as a third added, “The fact that she’s being so mean about this supposed hypothetical girl makes me wanna defend and befriend pomegranate girl so badly.”
