‘Frightening’: Phil Foden says £50k-p/w Man City player is only going to get better

Phil Foden has claimed that one Manchester City player is going to get even better.

The Englishman netted his second hat-trick of the season on Wednesday night in City’s 4-1 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League.

While he grabbed all the headlines for his goalscoring efforts, the midfielder has since taken the time to highlight one of his teammates for some special praise.

Speaking to the media after City’s win over Villa, Foden had this to say about Jeremy Doku’s performance in the game and what the future could hold for him at the Manchester club.

He said: “Very good. I thought he was frightening – he’s so dangerous one-on-one and helped us massively today to beat the full-back. He’s a fantastic talent and he’s only going to keep on getting better working under Pep as well. I’m delighted for him today – he performed really well.”

City signed the 21-year-old during the previous summer transfer window from Rennes in a deal worth a reported fee of £55m.

Since then, the Belgian, who is picking up a weekly wage of £50k-per-week, has made 33 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side across all competitions, scoring four goals and delivering seven assists.

Looking back over the midweek victory against Unai Emery’s side, Doku, who provided the assist for the opening goal of the game, had 63 touches of the ball in total and was able to make four key passes, successfully complete five of the eight dribbles he attempted and have two shots on target.

This highlights how much of an attacking threat the winger was on the night and why Foden was so impressed with him.

In fact, across his 22 Premier League appearances, the winger has made more progressive carries (175), carries into the penalty area (117) and successful take-ons (72) than any other player in the City squad.

Now that midweek’s hat-trick hero has shared his praise for Doku and the belief he has in him to improve his game, this should be a mouth-watering prospect for everyone at City.
