Dream in tatters for West Ham as Liverpool 'open talks' with top young target

West Ham and Liverpool are both facing the prospect of hiring new managers this summer but that could leave a Hammers dream in tatters.

As the world is all too aware Jurgen Klopp will be leaving Liverpool this summer but David Moyes could depart West Ham too.

Klopp is stepping down from the Anfield hotseat, leaving Liverpool a huge hole to fill.

As things stand the future of West Ham manager Moyes is very much in doubt too with his contract due to expire.

Changing of the guard for Liverpool and West Ham this summer?

Journalist Graeme Bailey recently claimed there is only one way Moyes will remain as Hammers boss next season.

That being to win the Europa League. In order to do that West Ham will likely have to beat Liverpool in the final in what would be Klopp’s – and possibly Moyes’ – last game.

A host of managers have been linked with both the Hammers and Liverpool.

Many feel impressive 39-year-old Sporting boss Ruben Amorim is the perfect manager to take West Ham’s game on to the next level.

And it has been claimed by Claret and Hugh that he’s on the radar of the club’s owners to replace Moyes.

But that dream is in tatters for West Ham as Liverpool ‘open talks’ with the top young managerial target.

‘A rapport has been built’

Foot Mercato claim Liverpool have now officially opened talks and negotiations with the representatives of Sporting head coach Amorim.

“Negotiations have now officially opened with Amorim now the club’s number one target,” the report states.

“The negotiations between Liverpool and Amorim also involve some familiar faces. The Reds have previously worked with Amorim’s representatives. Luís Diaz shares the same representatives and agents as Amorim, meaning a rapport has already been built between the respective parties following the Colombian winger’s transfer from Porto.”

Amorim is on the verge of leading Sporting to the double.

And amid the claims of official talks with Liverpool, Amorim has today offered no guarantees he will be around next season – as reported by A Bola.

Why Liverpool and West Ham want Amorim

Pep Guardiola has previously described Amorim as one of the best coaches around. And it’s easy to see why.

He sets his side up in a 3-4-3 system and it fluidly morphs into a 5-2-3 when defending. The Portuguese has his side play in a very aggressive high press style. And he uses highly energetic and physically robust players to get that system to work effectively.

Fans may have caught Sporting’s clashes with Premier League rivals Arsenal in the Europa League last season. If so you could not fail but be impressed by the incredible football the young coach has Sporting playing.

Amorim’s unique style has seen Sporting average three goals per game this season.

Amorim has only been managing for six years and has been in charge of Sporting since 2020.

Unique style has made Sporting a serious side

Since then, he has transformed the Portuguese giants into one of the most entertaining and dangerous teams to watch on the planet.

Now he has guaranteed goals too with Viktor Gyokeres – the striker West Ham passed up on – leading the line.

With Liverpool in the mix it seems West Ham’s pipe dream of luring Amorim to the London Stadium is dead.

So if Moyes is to depart then the Hammers must look elsewhere.

On that note Thomas Tuchel is being linked with West Ham once again.

And a source close to majority owner David Sullivan has responded to new speculation.
