Ange Postecoglou says £175,000-a-week Tottenham star definitely won't play against Nottingham Forest

Ange Postecoglou has now confirmed that one Tottenham star definitely won’t play against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Spurs welcome Nuno Espirito Santo back to N17 as they aim to leapfrog Aston Villa and gatecrash the Premier League top four.

Tottenham will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing 1-1 draw against West Ham on Tuesday, although Ange Postecoglou will have to do it without one of his best players…

Well, the Australian sadly confirmed that Richarlison will not be able to face Nottingham Forest.

The Brazil international only played eight minutes of Tuesday’s clash against West Ham – Joe Cole felt he should have come on earlier – although that was still enough time for him to suffer a knee injury.

Tottenham quote Postecoglou as saying: “The only one from the other night is Richy. He’s had a bit of a niggle with his knee, so we’ll probably give him this weekend off.”

The £175,000-a-week man has only just returned from a recent knee injury, which kept him out of the 3-1 win over Crystal Palace and the 4-0 victory over Aston Villa.

Before the first incident with Richarlison’s knee, the South American was among the best performers in the entire Premier League with nine goals in ten appearances.

Spurs need Richarlison back

Tottenham arguably have the most difficult end to the season of any side in Europe.

Once Nottingham Forest are out of the way, Spurs must face Newcastle, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool in consecutive fixtures, before ending the 2023/24 campaign with clashes against Burnley and Sheffield United.

With all due respect, those final two fixtures are not that frightening on paper, but the five games before are tough enough to derail Tottenham’s season if Postecoglou’s players are not at it.

It goes without saying that Spurs will have a much greater chance of success in these fixtures if Richarlison is involved, the only other Tottenham player to score double figures behind Heung-min Son this season.

Hopefully, the Brazilian’s latest knee injury is nothing to worry about.
