Jurgen Klopp could now start 'absolutely exceptional' 21-year-old for Liverpool tonight, he's 'got everything' - opinion

Liverpool are in Premier League action on Thursday night as they seek to return to the top of the Premier League table.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds reached the summit last weekend and stayed there until Wednesday night, when Arsenal leapfrogged them.

Now, Liverpool have the chance to leapfrog the Gunners and return to the top, providing they get the better of Sheffield United at Anfield.

The Reds are heavy favourites against a team that looks all-but certain to return to the Championship next season.

And while Liverpool will not be complacent – that’s how upsets happen – Klopp must be mindful of the tricky fixture coming up this weekend.

The Reds will be heading to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Sunday, so there’s a good chance we’ll see some changes on Thursday.

One player who was on the bench against Brighton who we reckon will start is Harvey Elliott, who turns 21 today.

With Wataru Endo being a doubt for the game, Klopp could well rejig his midfield. We reckon Elliott and Ryan Gravenberch will come in alongside Alexis Mac Allister.

Why should Harvey Elliott start for Liverpool against Sheffield United?

Elliott has become an important member of the Liverpool squad this season, with 42 appearances to his name in 2023/24.

At the same time, he has just six Premier League starts to his name this term, and a player of his calibre really should be in the starting XI more often.

Thursday is the perfect opportunity for Elliott to start and wreak havoc against a Championship-quality Blades defence.

He’d get his seventh Premier League start of the season – on his birthday, no less – and seek to stake a claim to start against the Red Devils.

Elliott is an ‘absolutely exceptional‘ talent who’s ‘got everything‘ he needs to succeed, so it would be great to see him break into the Liverpool XI.

Meanwhile, Endo and Dominik Szoboszlai could be rested and potentially be fully fit for the Man United game, giving Klopp the perfect selection headache.
