Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claims one Man Utd star is ‘always’ giving ‘100 per cent’ for club, Erik ten Hag would fully agree

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised one Manchester United star for giving “100 per cent for the club” and representing the Red Devils in the “best possible way.”

The 51-year-old Manchester United legend was dismissed from Old Trafford in 2021 after the Red Devils suffered a crushing 4-1 defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer endured a tough start in the 2021-22 season, which marked the end of his managerial run at the Premier League club.

Michael Carrick was appointed as the former United teammate’s replacement on a temporary basis, with Ralf Rangnick later taking charge as interim manager.

Solskjaer has been out of management since his time at United, but the ex-United star has insisted that a return to the dugout could happen in the future.

During his time at Old Trafford as a manager, the Norwegian former forward oversaw some success with United.

Solskjaer, who succeeded Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford in 2018, secured a second-place finish with United in the Premier League in the 2020-21 season.

The ex-United boss left the club without any major silverware as a coach after the Red Devils suffered a penalty shootout defeat to Villarreal in the Europa League final.

Solskjaer praises one Man Utd star

Speaking to FourFourTwo magazine, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opened up on both the highs and lows during his spell in charge of Manchester United.

The United legend admitted that one of his favourite moments came when Scott McTominay scored an injury-time stunner against Manchester City in 2020.

Anthony Martial opened the scoring at Old Trafford in the Manchester derby before Scott McTominay sealed all three points against United’s crosstown rivals.

Solskjaer regularly used McTominay when he was United manager and paired him alongside Fred in midfield as part of the infamous ‘McFred’ partnership.

McTominay is a divisive figure among United fans for the imbalance he brings to the team, despite managers preferring him as a midfield option at times.

The 27-year-old Scotland midfielder has shown the impact he can have off the bench this season for United under current Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag.

“Scott McTominay’s goal in the 96th minute against City in the last league game before lockdown,” Solskjaer said.

“Scott’s a great player and lad. He always gives 100 per cent for the club and represents United in the best possible way. It was wonderful for everyone.”

Solskjaer spotlights Man Utd high points

Despite his tenure ending in his dismissal, Solskjaer candidly highlighted other moments in his managerial career where his United teams would impress.

“There was the 9-0 against Southampton. We played some nice attacking football,” he continued.

“At our best, we’d go to places like Brighton, Spurs and Everton under Carlo Ancelotti, and we’d control the game. Or Leeds against Marcelo Bielsa’s side: we won 6-2 and 5-1 at home.

“Beating City away wasn’t an issue. That was Man United, we had to dig in, yet run against very motivated teams. Most are against Man United.

“And I don’t think we got the recognition for the organised attacks and defending, which we did well.

“Other managers and coaches complimented us on our tactical approach, with and without the ball.”
