Claims £40m Chelsea man is better than 'incredible' Arsenal star couldn't be more wrong - TBR View

Arsenal and Chelsea both some brilliant players right now, despite one challenging for the league title and the other being mid-table.

As we know, Arsenal are pushing to win the league after years of investment and the emergence of a number of young stars from the academy helping to bolster things as well.

With Chelsea, they are very much a work in progress. Todd Boehly’s billions have yet to yield any sort of success and despite having some exciting young players in the ranks, things are not quite clicking.

Of course, one man at Chelsea who things are clicking for is Cole Palmer.

Palmer scored a hat-trick in midweek against Manchester United to further enhance is ever-growing reputation in the game.

The £40m signing from Man City has been hugely impressive. Indeed, his form has even led to claims from Danny Murphy that he might be better than Arsenal hero Bukayo Saka.

“He’s got more goals than Saka. Look, don’t get wrong I love Saka and he’s a right winger out and out, Palmer’s kind of playing there as a ten. But his all around game (Palmer’s) you could argue is better. I’m not saying he’s a better right-winger than Saka but his all round footballing ability, in terms of passing, linking, dropping in, because Saka doesn’t play that role does he so it’s not a fully fair comparison. But I don’t see why it’s not an argument to have that he can’t take the place of anyone in the England team, apart from Bellingham, because of his numbers,” Murphy said on TalkSPORT.

However, while Murphy’s point is admirable, Cole Palmer is just not at Bukayo Saka’s level…yet.

Bukayo Saka is better than Cole Palmer right now

Of course, there are a lot of valid points to what Murphy says about Cole Palmer here. This season, his base numbers – goals and assists – are outdoing Saka. And that is to be admired, especially for a player in his first full season in the league.

However, to suggest he is better than Saka right now is not right.

For a start, Saka is the main man at a team pushing to win the league. There are levels in the league this season and Saka is a driving force behind one of the very best around.

Indeed, even on the base stats, Saka is still up there with Palmer. 13 Premier League goals, eight PL assists, and another eight goal contributions in other competitions show his class.

Further, Saka has also done it on the international stage at the highest level. At the World Cup, Saka scored three goals and was arguably England’s best player. It was also the Arsenal man who won the penalty against France in the quarters as he showed his class against the world’s best defenders.

Consistency is also key. Right now, we don’t know if Cole Palmer is going to deliver that. With Saka, we’ve already seen it, given he’s hit double figures in each of the last three seasons and is still just 22-years-old.

So, while Palmer is flying and the idea of seeing him and Saka in the same national side is something to savour, Saka is the man right now. As Kyle Walker says, the Arsenal man is just an ‘incredible‘ talent.

The future, though, looks very bright for England.
