'Absolute nightmare': Michael Dawson says Everton player got 'very' lucky against Burnley today

Sky Sports pundit Michael Dawson has said one Everton player got very lucky during the Toffees’ 1-0 win against Burnley today.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s first-half goal was enough to end the Toffees’ miserable winless run and maintain a gap to the bottom three.

The result will come as a relief to Sean Dyche after the pressure gradually mounted on the 53-year-old in recent weeks.

Talking on Soccer Saturday, Dawson – who made 286 Premier League appearances – suggested one of Everton’s players was a tad fortunate after a first-half incident.

Burnley keeper Arijanet Muric gifted Calvert-Lewin the Toffees’ opener on the stroke of half time.

Some would suggest it was clever work from the Everton forward. However, Dawson disagrees.

“This could be huge as Everton have been poor,” he told Sky Sports. “Calvert-Lewin gets very lucky as the ball gets hit against him, more luck than good judgement.”

He added: “This is how Burnley play, but Muric hade had an absolute nightmare, not that Everton or Calvert-Lewin will care…”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin finds Everton goal trail once more

It’s encouraging to see Calvert-Lewin find the goal trail once more. His penalty against Newcastle United and perhaps fortunate finish today are exactly what he needed. How the goals go in, quite frankly, doesn’t matter.

We’ve seen what he can produce when he’s at his best, and hopefully, his form this week is a sign of things to come. Speaking on BBC 5 Live’s Monday Night Club, Chris Sutton has suggested the 26-year-old is“virtually” everything you want in a striker.

“Dominic Calvert-Lewin has virtually everything which you want as a number nine. He can run in behind, he can link play, he can hold the ball up, he’s sensational in the air. You think of some of the headers he’s scored previously. There aren’t many better headers of football than Dominic Calvert-Lewin,” he said.
