'I expect': BBC pundit makes prediction for Manchester United vs Liverpool

BBC pundit Michael Brown has made his prediction for Manchester United vs Liverpool, saying Erik ten Hag needs to get a big reaction from his side.

It’s been a difficult week for Manchester United as they have twice been leading going deep into added time in London only to twice throw three points away.

Erik ten Hag’s side took the lead in added time at Brentford through Mason Mount but couldn’t hold on for the win.

Things were even worse against Chelsea on Thursday as they fought from two goals down to take the lead and were still ahead in the 99th minute but somehow lost 4-3.

It was a bruising defeat that has further put Ten Hag’s job in peril and things don’t get any easier this weekend.

United once again welcome Liverpool to Old Trafford and former Manchester City midfielder Michael Brown has made his prediction.

Michael Brown’s Manchester United vs Liverpool prediction

Speaking on BBC’s Friday Football Social, Brown said: “That’s what they’re going to be like [motivated], and I think Liverpool controlled that tie.

“Obviously, it looked like Manchester United weren’t going to get near. It was literally keep ball, they were moving it around.

“Then a little bit of magic got them back in it, then obviously a wonderful ending for such a big game between the two powerhouses of a football club.

“Can Manchester United get a reaction? I think they’ll be bruised, I think they’ll be feeling sorry for themselves, Liverpool on an ultimate high and going really well.

“I do expect Liverpool to go on and win the game but Manchester United and Erik ten Hag have to get a reaction.”

Can Man United repeat their last meeting with Liverpool?

Despite the past week, United can at least go into the match with a modicum of belief thanks to the last meeting between the sides just a couple of weeks ago.

United showed great spirit to twice fight from behind and some how defeat their fierce rivals but it’s a very different proposition this time around.

With the last match being an FA Cup tie, United had nothing to lose so Ten Hag was free to throw caution to the wind and go all out for the result as he made several attacking subs.

In contrast, Jurgen Klopp took some of his most important players off when he thought the game was run, to give them a rest. A risk he won’t take this time.

Liverpool sit at the top of the table and are embroiled in a tight title race. A single slip-up could be costly so they’ll be much more motivated this time around.

It doesn’t look good for United.
