Arsenal just became the first team to ever do one thing to De Zerbi's Brighton side

Arsenal produced an assured and professional performance to earn a vital 3-0 win against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.

Arsenal went back to the summit of the Premier League table with a 3-0 win against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Whilst the Seagulls are a very talented team, who posed a real threat to Mikel Arteta’s side, the North London club were still able to put in an extremely impressive display.

How Arsenal beat Brighton 3-0 on Saturday

Arsenal started very brightly, with Gabriel Magalhaes, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Jesus all spurning very presentable chances during the opening exchanges. These missed opportunities might have come back to haunt the Gunners on another day, but on this occasion Arsenal simply kept going and finally made the breakthrough in the 33rd minute as Saka converted confidently from the penalty spot.

This strike marked a landmark moment for Saka, who has enjoyed a fine season in front of goal. In the second half, goals from Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard, who returned to haunt his former club, wrapped up the points for Arsenal. Havertz impressed Arsenal fans with his overall display against Brighton.

This was a tough test that Arsenal needed to overcome. Given how finely poised the Premier League title race is, this was a must-win game for the Gunners. On top of that pressure, Brighton have an excellent home record. Despite this, Arteta’s men rose to the challenge that they faced on the south coast emphatically.

Arsenal set record against Brighton

As they have done all season, Arsenal defended diligently, restricting the hosts to just two shots on target in the entire match, and neither of those came from clear-cut opportunities. At the other end of the pitch, the Gunners tore the Brighton defence apart. But for a few wayward finishes, the final score could easily have been in the region of 5-0.

One stat shows just how effective Arsenal were in the final third at the Amex Stadium. As reported by DailyAFC on X, the visitors racked up an xG of 3.23. This set a record as being the highest expected goals figure that Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton have ever conceded.

Arsenal now need to maintain their exceptional form until the end of the season, both in the Premier League and on the European stage. They face another enormous challenge on Tuesday evening when they will welcome German giants Bayern Munich to the Emirates Stadium for the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.
