'Absolutely exceptional’ ace had his ‘best performance in an Arsenal shirt’ v Brighton

Journalist Charles Watts has hailed the performance that one Arsenal star produced against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Arsenal put in a mature and professional display to earn a 3-0 win against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon.

The Gunners faced a tough test on the south coast. Prior to this clash the Seagulls had only been beaten once in the Premier League when playing at home this season. However, the hosts had no answer for Mikel Arteta’s side as Arsenal set a new record with their attacking play.

After the North London club missed a flurry of early chances, Bukayo Saka then put the Gunners ahead from the penalty spot in the 33rd minute. After the break, Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard sealed the win to send Arsenal back to the top of the Premier League table.

Arsenal fans were particularly pleased with what they saw from Havertz in this match. The German forward has been in fine form in recent weeks and has now taken his tally of goals in the Premier League this season to nine, and he has also chipped in with five assists.

Charles Watts wowed by Kai Havertz against Brighton

Havertz has shone as a striker for Arsenal in recent weeks. He is an ideal presence for the Gunners to have at the top of the pitch, where he can act as a focal point with this physicality and aerial prowess.

Charles Watts was also hugely impressed by what he saw from the 24-year-old. Speaking on his Inside Arsenal YouTube channel, the reporter said, “the work-rate from Havertz, he was just absolutely tireless all night. He gave Lewis Dunk and the Brighton defence all sorts of problems with his physicality, challenging for every single ball, his link-up play, his smart movement. It was a really top performance from Kai Havertz.”

“There were a lot of good performances from Arsenal players, but I thought Havertz was absolutely exceptional…I’ve said it a fair few times this season, ‘this has been Havertz’s best performance in an Arsenal shirt’, but I really do think this was his best performance in an Arsenal shirt.”

Kai Havertz has found his place at Arsenal

The 44-cap Germany international endured a difficult start to his Arsenal career as Arteta tried to reinvent him as a midfielder. When he first arrived at the Emirates Stadium, following his arrival from Chelsea in the recent summer transfer window, he looked like a player bereft of confidence.

Now, though, Havertz has found his place at Arsenal. He has nailed down a position in the team and is going from strength to strength with each passing week. In terms of end product, Havertz recently surpassed in his first season at Arsenal anything he achieved in his three terms on the books at Chelsea.

He will be desperate to impress again when the Gunners welcome German giants Bayern Munich to the Emirates Stadium for the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash on Tuesday evening.
