'Past few weeks': Marvin Johnson now clarifies his Sheffield Wednesday absence after Rohl comments

Marvin Johnson has now explained why he missed Sheffield Wednesday’s win over QPR.

Fans were left wondering whether something had happened with Marvin Johnson after he was left out of the matchday squad all together for their trip to Loftus Road.

The 33-year-old had played the full 90 minutes in 17 of their last 19 matches in the Championship and had become a key player under Danny Rohl.

However, Johnson wasn’t even named on the bench as they claimed a vital 2-0 win over QPR yesterday.

Rohl was then asked if Johnson was injured, and he told BBC Sheffield: ““We had some small problems but I will not speak about Marvin today. I will speak only about my team here, because this team here fights and has the right attitude.”

While it had appeared they had had a strong relationship for the rest of the campaign, Rohl’s comments had suggested that perhaps he didn’t think Johnson had the ‘right attitude’.

Marvin Johnson explains absence

The versatile winger has taken to social media to clarify his absence though, making it clear that there are no problems between him and the German manager.

Johnson was quizzed by fans on social media, to which he wrote: “Slight injury mate been dealing with past few weeks.”

The fan then replied saying: “Fans love you, but they’ll turn quick on any player that is not fully committed! Come back strong and give your all!”

Johnson was quick to clear up any doubt and replied: “Always committed.”

Should Sheffield Wednesday fans be worried?

The veteran has been a really important figure for the Owls this season but is one of many players whose future at Hillsborough is in doubt.

While they managed to pick up all three points without him, there is no denying that Johnson can be pivotal to staying up this term, and the club and fans certainly won’t want rumours swirling around about his attitude.

But if Johnson is just injured then it begs the question as to why Rohl didn’t expand on that and instead suggested that there could be an off-pitch problem that forced him out of the squad.

I’m sure we will see whether he is brought back into the team over the next couple of games, but supporters will definitely want him to be a key member of the squad right up until the last day of the campaign.
