Sheffield Wednesday fans all say the same thing after Barry Bannan discusses contract

Sheffield Wednesday fans have reacted to Barry Bannan after the club captain discussed his future.

Bannan, 34, is one of several first-team players out of contract at Sheffield Wednesday in the summer.

As things stand, Bannan is set to leave the club this summer after nine years at Hillsborough, though there’ll surely be discussions of a potential new deal.

But whether those discussions actually end in a new deal remain to be seen.

Recent comments from Bannan may suggest that there’s some uncertainty, even from himself, about his Wednesday future.

Speaking ahead of the Championship clash vs QPR on Saturday, Bannan said on his Sheffield Wednesday contract:

“I’ve not heard anything. I think it’s just a case of knuckling down for these last six games and what will be, will be.”

Bannan also went on to question the club and owner Dejphon Chansiri over the handling of contracts, given the fact that a number of players are out of contract this summer.

Bannan said about the state of contracts at Sheffield Wednesday:

“Listen, we’re humans. People are different. It [relegation] will probably be playing a part. So as we go forward as a club we need to make sure this situation doesn’t come around again.

“It’s about having a bit of clarity for players going forward. I don’t think at a club this should happen. It’s not a great situation. If people’s futures were clearer then it’s a lot easier for them, but like I said, you’ve got to put the club first at this period of time. The club is paying your wages so you need to go out and fight until your contract is over and what will be will be.”

Bannan’s comments were quite eye-opening.

He gave a very honest verdict on the situation and it’s garnered quite a strong reaction on social media.

And the vast majority of Sheffield Wednesday fans side with Bannan, and argue that he needs to be kept at the club no matter the outcome of this season.

Bannan has 396 appearances to his name for the club and has lead the players through thick and thin, especially so in more recent seasons.

And this season, although he’s scored just one and assisted one more, he’s shown his class, being the standout player on many occasions.
