Arteta couldn’t believe what ‘outstanding’ Arsenal star did v Brighton, he found it funny

Mikel Arteta was left in disbelief after what Jorginho did in Arsenal’s 3-0 win against Brighton & Hove Albion this weekend.

The Italian international was again named in the starting XI as the former Chelsea man impressed in midfield, with Arsenal putting on one of their most complete performances to date in the Premier League.

Whilst Kai Havertz again stole the headlines, Jorginho did his business in midfield with a mastery that few in Europe can muster, yet one moment surprised Arteta in hilarious fashion.

Speaking to the press via Hayters TV, Arteta admitted that he did not expect Jorginho to bomb forward into the penalty box to assist Havertz, with the midfielder finding his former Chelsea teammate in a tight space.

Given how defensive Jorginho’s game is, the 32-year-old ending up in such an advanced position caught many off-guard, even with the Italian finding his man in a good area.

Indeed, Jorginho’s goal contributions might be limited, yet the veteran midfielder has proven to be a big man for the key moments, with last night a good example of what he can do.

Arteta said: “He was superb and nobody expected him to be running into those areas with the ball to assist Kai! But his leadership, his intelligence, the quality he delivers, it makes everyone better. He was outstanding.”

Jorginho was a surprise signing for many last year, yet it’s hard to deny that the midfielder has been anything but a success for Arsenal since arriving from Chelsea.

Whilst hardly a long-term option in the midfield, Jorginho has added experience and leadership to a young Arsenal squad that were in need of a senior figure.

And this season has proven to be quite the year for Jorginho, who has emerged as one of Arsenal’s most important players and a midfielder who could be key in the Gunners challenging for the Premier League.
