Celtic release statement after unsavoury scenes during Ibrox draw

Celtic left Ibrox with a point today in a dramatic affair that has left Brendan Rodgers’ men in a strong position amid their ongoing Scottish Premiership title hunt.

Daizen Maeda, Matt O’Riley and Adam Idah all got on the scoresheet for the visitors; meanwhile, James Tavernier, Abdallah Sima and Rabbi Matondo have the home side a point on the day.

Brendan Rodgers praised his side for keeping their destiny this season intact, stating post-match: “We’re disappointed not to win, but to leave here with it all in our hands is what we wanted – for that, I’m really proud.”

Nevertheless, Celtic have now released a statement relating to an unsavoury off-field incident involving assistant manager John Kennedy.

Per The Scottish Sun, the 40-year-old has been formally spoken to by the police after ‘five or six’ objects, believed to be coins, struck Kennedy in the away dugout.

In response, the club have written a strongly worded statement condemning those deemed responsible, and the matter is now under investigation.

Speaking about the incident that unfolded, a Celtic spokesperson stated [The Scottish Sun]: “It is totally unacceptable that our staff have once again been targeted in this way.

“We will be raising our serious concerns with Rangers and we understand that the matter is currently being investigated by Police Scotland.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time something of this nature has occurred in a Glasgow Derby, with our 2-1 victory at Ibrox in 2022 marred by the fact that Joe Hart’s goalmouth was covered in broken glass, thrown from the home section.

Regardless of the perpetrator, what team they support or the venue, there isn’t a place in football for unsavoury scenes such as this instance.
