Man Utd did something against Liverpool they haven’t done for nine years – and it’s not a good thing

Manchester United drew 2-2 with Liverpool in the Premier League, in what was a seriously bonkers encounter.

A well-earned point. After Liverpool took the lead in the first half, it looked seriously bleak for Manchester United to come back at any point.

Remarkably, United found themselves 2-1 up after 67 minutes. Two wonder goals from Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo put the Red Devils in the ascendancy. That was until Liverpool equalised to round off a chaotic second-half encounter.

But turning our focus to a drab first half, United did something they haven’t done for a whopping nine years against their bitter rivals.

Manchester United have a season-first against Liverpool in the Premier League

Against Liverpool, Manchester United had zero shots in the first half. This is the first time they have failed to have a shot on goal before half-time in the Premier League this season.

Aside from a Casemiro header back across the box neither Willy Kambwala nor Rasmus Hojlund could convert – the Red Devils did simply not have a sniff. The stats speak for themselves.

Not only was it the first time this season, but it also broke a record dated back all the way to 2015.

Old Trafford stat dates back to 2015…

Flashback to 2015, Louis van Gaal is in charge of Manchester United. It seems a lifetime away.

But it was Erik ten Hag who broke another record today. It was also the first time Manchester United hadn’t had a shot on target in the first half at Old Trafford since October 2015 against Manchester City in a 0-0 draw.

Two terrible stats… yet United still managed to salvage a point. Jurgen Klopp will leave Manchester not knowing how his side didn’t get the win, particularly after the first-half showing by the Red Devils.
