'Wow': Cole Palmer, Joao Cancelo & several stars impressed by Aston Villa player v Brentford

Aston Villa were dealt a major blow in the race for Champions League football after recording a 3-3 draw against Brentford on Saturday.

What is going to be even more frustrating for Unai Emery is that the team was 2-0 up at the start of the second half.

Yet, in the blink of an eye, Brentford, who didn’t have a shot on target in the first half, were 3-2 up and the Villa Park faithful were left shell-shocked.

Not many Aston Villa players can hold their heads up high because there were many indifferent performances during the game.

But one man who did enjoy a very good afternoon was Morgan Rogers. He scored his first goal in Claret & Blue colours, which also impressed Paul Merson.

After great link-up with Youri Tielemans, the January signing did very well to weave his way on the edge of the box, outfox the Brentford players and the goalkeeper, before sticking his effort in the near corner.

The 21-year-old expressed his delight on Instagram at his maiden goal, with several players from Cole Palmer, Youri Tielemans, Leon Bailey, Joao Cancelo, Tommi O’Reilly and Diego Carlos praising his efforts.

Morgan Rogers scores first goal for Aston Villa

Diego Carlos wrote in the comments section of Rogers’ IG post ‘1st of many, bro’, with Tielemans agreeing and saying ‘Well done, bro. Great goal’.

Leon Bailey, who started the game and supplied the assist for the equalising goal, added ‘Congrats, my bro’.

With Cole Palmer stating ‘My boy’, Tommi O’Reilly adding ‘wow’ and Joao Cancelo saying ‘congrats, my bro’.

Morgan Rogers getting better and better

This goal is deserved and one that has been coming based on Rogers’ recent form since being thrust into the starting XI by Emery.

It was actually a surprise when the manager decided to hook him off when Brentford were making their comeback because he deserved to stay on the pitch.

But moving forward, he should now be one of the first names on the teamsheet because he has been outstanding.

Yes, the defensive side of it can be worked on, especially helping out his left-back, but his tactical awareness, reliability with the ball and ball-carrying ability is just incredible.
