Rangers star takes aim at Celtic rivals on social media as snarling on-pitch clash explained

Rangers star Todd Cantwell and Celtic captain Callum McGregor certainly have something of an Old Firm duel brewing.

Two of the most high profile players in the Scottish Premiership, come full-time in Sunday’s enthralling 3-3 Ibrox draw the two kicked off something of a rammy.

Whilst it wound up being the proverbial handbags at dawn, it gives an insight into Todd Cantwell’s contempt for both Celtic and their captain.

Both are very good players at the top of their game and if anything, the clash certainly adds extra spice to the remaining Old Firm derby at Celtic Park in a few week’s time.

What happened between Todd Cantwell & Callum McGregor?

It’s not the first time these two have bumped heads in Rangers and Celtic jerseys.

The two have routinely been pitched against each other on Old Firm day with Todd Cantwell running the show in that 3-0 victory at Ibrox last season.

Both players started on the bench in this game and after noising each other up on the park, clashed at full-time.

As you can see in the clip below, Callum McGregor approaches Todd Cantwell for a handshake and the two exchange some words.

Cantwell then takes umbrage with something McGregor said and gently shoves the Celtic captain, causing a melee.

This came after the two were giving each other it tight on the park, McGregor being spotted boasting about the scoreline to Cantwell who responded “we’ll see, we’ll see.”

With the match eventually ending 3-3, it’s set everything up for a grandstand finish in the Scottish Premiership this season.

Rangers star stokes Celtic battle on Instagram

It’s been a while since Rangers had a player who had such contempt for Celtic as Todd Cantwell clearly does.

The Parkhead support too – led by Chris Sutton and his green and white pom-poms – have taken to attacking the midfielder online. Much of it goes beyond banter.

It’s little wonder then Todd Cantwell – a player of genuine match-winning talent on his day – isn’t exactly the biggest fan of the Parkhead side.

Taking to social media in the aftermath of the game, it’s clear Todd has the bite for the Old Firm battle:

It’s clear too that Callum McGregor, who has to our dismay been a regular victor in the Old Firm fixture, is a tad rattled by Todd Cantwell’s potential contribution to Rangers.

I’d be taking the constant nonsense from McGregor as a compliment and let’s hope Todd uses it to inspire victory for Rangers when the next clash with Celtic rolls round.
