Report: Tottenham set to make £15.2m loss on 'fantastic' player, he's 'not happy' under Ange Postecoglou

What has been made clear since Ange Postecoglou arrived at Tottenham Hotspur is that he is willing to offload players that are not offering much – rather than just keeping them at the club as dead wood.

Harry Winks, Davinson Sanchez, Sergio Reguilon, Tanguy Ndombele, Joe Rodon and plenty more were sent on their way last summer – after Postecoglou decided that they were not in his plans at Tottenham.

The Aussie gaffer clearly doesn’t like players unhappy because they are not playing, just hanging around. Certainly, he had to stream line the bloated squad with Spurs not in Europe during the 23-24 campaign.

But he chose, perhaps surprisingly, to keep Bryan Gil at Spurs last summer. Gil, 23, has endured a difficult time at Spurs since joining in a deal worth £21.6m plus Erik Lamela – who went the other way, to Sevilla.

Tottenham set to sell Bryan Gil for ‘very reasonable’ price

Gil has managed just 42 appearances for Spurs in three years and has been shipped out on loan twice, impressing at both Valencia and then Sevilla – his former club. He has stayed at Tottenham this season.

But after the signing of Timo Werner, his place even in the matchday squad has come to a halt. He has not been a part of the Spurs squad for the last six Premier League games. Reports say he is ‘not happy’.

Now, a new report from Spanish outlet Vamos Mi Sevilla FC. They claim that Tottenham are willing to wave goodbye to Gil for a ‘very reasonable’ £5.2m – despite Postecoglou once saying he is “fantastic”.

That would see Spurs take a huge financial hit on the Spain U21 player. Having paid £21.6m on the cash part of his signing in 2021, selling for £5.2m would see Tottenham wave goodbye to £15.4m on Gil.

Who is likely to be interested in Tottenham star Gil this summer?

The chances are, he returns to Spain. Sevilla are likely to be keen on the player they brought through their academy, having already had him back on loan, Valencia could also be keen, after he impressing on loan.

Real Sociedad are said to have held talks to sign Gil in January and other Spanish clubs will surely be interested. Whether any English clubs become interested in the winger remains to be seen this summer.

But the chance are he will go back to his home country in a bid to reignite his career and find somehwre he can call home. At such a small price, there will be many suitors after him in the coming months.
