‘It’s irrelevant’: £4m player says he really doesn’t care if Ange Postecoglou doesn’t like him

Ange Postecoglou is one of the most likeable men in football.

The Australian seems to be a very grounded individual who has time for all of his players.

However, as with any manager, Postecoglou has to be ruthless at times, and he’s not afraid to make big calls or ruffle a few feathers.

Postecoglou all-but froze Eric Dier out of his Tottenham team this season, and that was a difficult situation to navigate.

Dier left Tottenham for Bayern Munich in January after almost a decade of good service at Spurs.

Sadly, Dier left Spurs on quiet a sour note. His form over the past 18 months has been quite poor, and he was very much out of the picture by the time he left the club.

Ange Postecoglou didn’t necessarily give Dier many opportunities during his time at Tottenham, and speaking to The Athletic, Dier has now been discussing his relationship with the Spurs boss.

Eric Dier speaks about Ange Postecoglou

The £4m man spoke about his relationship with the manager, stating that he doesn’t really care if Postecoglou doesn’t like him, but stating that he does actually like the Australian as a person.

“I didn’t take it personally, him not playing me. If he doesn’t like me, it’s not a problem for me. Lots of people won’t like me, lots of people like me, it’s irrelevant.

“I try to look at it through my own point of view: do I like the manager, for who he is as a person, and the way he is as a coach? It doesn’t matter to me if I’m playing or not. And I really, really enjoyed working under him, and I learned a hell of a lot. I’d love to sit down and talk to him now.

“I have so many questions — about the way he does certain things and why he does them. Hopefully, one day, I’ll be able to.”

Eric Dier had a difficult time under Postecoglou

It doesn’t sound as though Dier is necessarily Postecoglou’s biggest fan, and that is understandable.

Every Tottenham manager Dier has worked under has found a role for him within the team, but Postecoglou wasn’t having him at all.

By the sounds of it, the line of communication between the two wasn’t great either, and Dier left on a bit of a sour note.

Postecoglou is usually a fantastic man manager, but, by the sounds of it, he didn’t do a great job with Dier.
