‘Ludicrous situation’: Kieran Maguire gives immediate reaction to Everton’s new PSR deduction

Well, Everton have finally learnt the outcome of their latest PSR hearing, with a two-point deduction the eventual conclusion.

Given how low a standard the Premier League have set for their guidelines, it actually marked a surprisingly small punishment, and one that could have been much worse given their initial ten-point deduction administered back in November.

Although, reports have since revealed that they did in fact lobby for a five-point penalty.

Fortunately, the independent commission was far more lenient, and despite the sanction, Everton’s destiny still remains in their own hands.

That is, unless what Kieran Maguire prophesies comes to fruition.

Kieran Maguire reacts to latest deduction

Speaking live on Sky Sports News earlier today, the football finance expert offered his verdict on the breaking news which has once again rocked the footballing world.

Maguire noted: The backstop date from my understanding is around the 24th or 25th of May, we might not know the full details at the end of the season, we still have to wait.

‘We’ve got to have the Nottingham Forest appeal take place first, and once the commission has communicated that to Forest and we’ve got a digestion there we would then move on to the Everton case.

‘In an ideal situation for Everton fans is that they are safe regardless of the two points at the end of the season and then we will know it was simply a case of are they 16th, 17th, 15th or whatever.

‘But if they are in the relegation places and the appeal is still outstanding then it will have a ludicrous situation in which we don’t know who’s going to be in the Championship next season.’

Everton have already appealed Premier League’s decision

Well, it seems that we are due to go down to the wire in the ‘ludicrous’ fashion that Maguire suggests, with Everton having already voiced their intention to appeal the Premier League’s decision.

Having achieved success the first time around, seeing their ten-point deduction later reduced to just six, they will hope for another positive alteration which would see them lose just one point, or, better yet, see the sanction expunged altogether.

That is highly unlikely though, given how severe they have been with Everton all season.

They have delayed any takeover progress, thus leaving the club in a persisting state of limbo, whilst also forging brand-new PSR punishments with which to attack the Toffees.

It is no wonder that corruption claims have consistently emerged from Goodison Park.

This latest ruling is unlikely to see them ease either.
