'Magic': Garth Crooks raves about 'superb' Nottingham Forest star who really impressed him this week

Over the past week or so, we’ve seen the good and the bad of Nottingham Forest but Garth Crooks has picked one player out for praise.

Forest defeated Fulham 3-1 at the City Ground on Tuesday night before losing by the same score line to Tottenham yesterday evening.

The pair of results – coupled with a win for Luton over Bournemouth – means that Forest are now only outside of the relegation zone on goal difference.

Still, the Reds have some very winnable games on the horizon and hopefully, things can look a little better in the coming weeks.

Forest need to put a run of wins together pretty quickly and if they can do that there is no reason why safety can’t be secured this season.

Crooks has produced a Team of the Week on the BBC Sport website and although there is no place for a Forest player, there is an honourable mention for one star man.

It won’t come as a surprise that the player who comes in for praise from Crooks is Morgan Gibbs-White.

The 24-year-old scored his fifth goal of the campaign against Fulham as the Reds finished the first half three goals to the good.

Gibbs-White has been the star man at Forest since his arrival from Wolves for £25 million in the summer of 2022.

This term he’s scored five goals and also helped himself to seven assists as he bids to help Forest survive in the Premier League.

Crooks lauded him for his efforts in the victory over Fulham and named him alongside Cole Palmer in his honourable mentions.

He told BBC Sport: “That turn to get away from Joao Palhinha and the final pass for Callum Hudson-Odoi to score against Fulham in midweek was superb.

“Gibbs-White was producing touches of magic all over the park against Fulham, who were well and truly beaten on the night. Gibbs-White also deserved his goal to crown a superb performance.”

Forest have to protect Gibbs-White at all costs

The Reds have six vitally important games now left to play during the 2023/24 campaign and it was worrying to see Gibbs-White have his hamstring heavily strapped after he was substituted.

Otherwise, it would have seemed a strange substitute with Forest fighting desperately to get back into the game as they trailed 3-1 to Tottenham.

Protecting the star man was the order of the day for Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo and he will be acutely aware that he needs Gibbs-White to stay fit.

Hopefully, the 24-year-old can be fit and ready for action when Forest take on his former club Wolves at the City Ground next weekend.
