Bayern Munich star Serge Gnabry drops 'difficult' verdict ahead of his return to Arsenal

Serge Gnabry has given his verdict on facing Arsenal this week with Bayern Munich ahead of the winger’s return to north London.

The Germany international was once on Arsenal’s books with Arsene Wenger signing Gnabry as a teenager, with the forward going on to make a handful of first-team appearances for the Gunners.

Despite his potential, Gnabry was eventually sold by Arsenal in one of the most ill-informed deals the club have made in quite some time, with the 28-year-old now regarded as one of the best in the world.

Yet speaking to Bayern Munich’s official website, Gnabry has spoken out about his excitement over returning to Arsenal, a club the forward clearly still has a lot of love and affection for after all these years.

Gnabry said when asked about his return to Arsenal: “I’m really looking forward to it. During the draw, I said it was bound to happen. I’m extremely happy to be going there again after almost eight years.

“Arsenal have been on a very good run since Christmas. In any case, you can’t really say anything bad about a team that’s competing for the Premier League title. They’re strong, good finishers and are keen on having possession.

“They’re formidable in their own stadium with their fans behind them. It will be a difficult task, with two strong teams coming up against each other.”

A lot has happened at Arsenal since Gnabry’s departure in 2018, with Mikel Arteta transforming this club into one of the best in the Premier League and one of the most exciting in all of Europe.

And Tuesday night will be an occasion where the Gunners will want to prove they can take on the best, with Arsenal favourites to get something against Bayern at the Emirates Stadium.

Indeed, Gnbary’s return will be an emotional one, yet it’s one that Arsenal can’t get too hung up about, with this squad one that is completely different to the one the German played with.
