Are West Ham the real reason Man United target has just turned down top job?

West Ham could be looking for a new manager next month so might an out of work Man United target be keeping his options open?

Big question marks remain over the future of David Moyes at West Ham beyond this summer.

And the same can be said for Erik ten Hag at Manchester United following the INEOS takeover.

As things stand West Ham’s manager Moyes – a former Man United boss himself – is insisting it is he who is stalling on signing a new contract.

Meanwhile at Man United, speculation is rife Ten Hag could be on his way come what May.

Hammers News spoke to a top contact close to the owners recently about Moyes’ future.

And the senior source made their position very clear.

“The managerial situation will be resolved at the end of the season,” the source said.

“We have tough fixtures coming up in both league and cup, but they will decide our season.”

Potter consistently linked with West Ham and Man United

Well the end of the season is now on the horizon and both West Ham and Man United could be at a real managerial crossroads.

Yesterday a journalist who is close with Moyes claimed the ex Manchester United man is waiting to gauge fan sentiment towards him over the next few weeks before deciding whether to stay at West Ham or walk away.

One manager linked with both the Hammers and the Red Devils is Graham Potter.

Back in February a journalist claimed to have been told the four names on West Ham’s shortlist to replace Moyes. And Potter was said to be chief among them.

Potter, out of work since being sacked by Chelsea, is said to be an INEOS favourite and was a contender to become manager at OGC Nice, another club under their umbrella.

Are West Ham the real reason Potter has turned down Ajax?

According to the likes of Sky Sports, Potter was Ajax’s prime target to become their new boss.

The Dutch giants are in a mess since selling star players such as Antony to Man United and Mohammed Kudus and Edson Alvarez to West Ham.

And they expedited talks with Potter following a 6-0 defeat to Feyenoord yesterday.

But Potter has raised eyebrows by rejecting the job, as reported by the likes of Sky Sports News in the post below.

Manchester United fan site The People’s Person has suggested ‘incessantly linked’ Potter turning down Ajax could be a sign he’s waiting for something bigger to come around.

But is it more likely that he’s got wind the West Ham job could well be available?

It seems highly unlikely he would land the Man United job after his failings at Chelsea.

Hammers will be biggest job available to ex Chelsea boss

And INEOS are backing Ten Hag, who has confidently stated he will still be Man United boss come next season.

There are no other top Premier League jobs open or set to be open for Potter other than potentially West Ham.

Especially as just over a month ago The Telegraph journalist Matt Law reported that Moyes will ‘almost certainly depart’ West Ham and that Potter was the man the Hammers see as his ideal replacement to work under technical director Tim Steidten.

We won’t have too long to wait to find out with the season ending on May 19 unless Moyes can lead the Hammers to the Europa League final.
