West Ham reportedly have Declan Rice situation mark II on our hands

West Ham United fans will be absolutely dreading the day that Lucas Paqueta leaves the London Stadium.

Of course, we all hope that it will never happen but players like Lucas Paqueta always go on to leave clubs like West Ham – that’s just the way it is.

The good news is that West Ham boss David Moyes seems to be lining up replacements for the Brazilian already, with the likes of Inter Milan sensation Valentin Carbini thought to be on the Scot’s radar.

We’re all huge fans of Paqueta at West Ham but sometimes the worst thing we can do as Hammers fans is fall in love with our best player.

We learnt that the hard way in the summer when Declan Rice left the Hammers to join our London rivals Arsenal in a £105 million deal.

Losing Lucas would be equally as painful as Rice’s exit. He has been a sensational player for us since moving to East London from Lyon in the summer of 2022.

Lucas Paqueta West Ham stats

The 26-year-old South American is a proper player. Sure he loses the ball at times but he’s a mercurial talent who is always looking to make things happen for us.

It will be such a shame to lose him, especially in a similar way to Declan Rice. However, the latest reports emanating from France will just make the Hammers fans incredibly angry…

Declan Rice situation eerily similar to claim about West Ham star Lucas Paqueta

It was claimed a few months ago that the 26-year-old has his heart set on a move to Manchester City this summer.

Pep Guardiola actually tried to bring him to the Etihad last summer, but he remained at the London Stadium in the end.

Now though, it seems like the Brazil international could be set to follow Declan Rice out the door, in eerily similar circumstances to the Englishman.

Rice apparently agreed to join Arsenal back in January 2023 – a full six months before he moved to the Emirates, after holding a secret meeting with Gunners boss Mikel Arteta (The Mirror).

And now, Paqueta has seemingly followed suit. That’s because Foot Mercato are claiming that the Brazilian has already agreed personal terms with Man City, despite the fact that West Ham haven’t even started talks with the Premier League champions.

If true, the question has to be asked: When did ‘tapping up’ become acceptable?

Surely something has to be done about this, if Paqueta really has agreed to leave West Ham to join Manchester City.

It’s just not on, and the footballing authorities need to get on top of it very quickly indeed.
