'Verbal agreement': Liverpool have just agreed terms with 'incredible' manager Chelsea reportedly wanted - journalist

If Chelsea sack Mauricio Pochettino in the summer, one manager who they are reportedly interested in may no longer be available at that point.

Getting rid of Mauricio Pochettino is a decision that Chelsea may have to make come the end of the season.

The 52-year-old has really underperformed this term, with his side currently sitting ninth in the Premier League table.

They also lost 1-0 to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final and could easily taste defeat at Wembley again, albeit at the semi-final stage, when they take on Manchester City in the FA Cup next Saturday.

Defeat there and failing to qualify for European football would surely put Pochettino’s job in jeopardy, if it is not already.

Chelsea could miss out on manager to Liverpool

With Liverpool knowing for certain that Jurgen Klopp will be leaving the club at the end of the season, they can already make a move for their next manager. And it looks like that they have done just that.

According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, while Chelsea have enquired, Liverpool now have a “verbal agreement” with Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim for him to succeed Klopp in the Anfield dugout.

Plettenberg recently claimed that Chelsea were monitoring Amorim amid doubts surrounding Pochettino’s long-term future at Stamford Bridge.

His work at Sporting has been described as “incredible” by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

What is Ruben Amorim’s style of play?

Amorim has utilised a 3-4-3 formation at Sporting this season. It is a set-up that Chelsea have had a lot of success with in the past, perhaps making the Portuguese a good fit for the Blues.

Based on statistics recorded by WhoScored, under Amorim, Sporting are a side who look to dominate possession and attack through the middle and down the left flank.

There is a lot to like about the 39-year-old and you can see why Chelsea would be interested in him. However, with Pochettino still in charge, they are not in a position to hire Amorim, making Liverpool a much more likely destination at this moment in time.
