Report: Premier League giant 'may make offer' for 'fearless' Wolves star with summer talks planned

Wolves will be looking over their shoulder ahead of the summer transfer window, with Arsenal said to be eyeing one of Gary O’Neil’s best players.

It’s braced to be a busy summer as Gary O’Neil looks for suitable reinforcements to bolster his Wolves squad in the transfer window.

The manager has seen just how much work his side needs at the end of the season, as the Old Gold continue to combat playing in the Premier League with a small squad.

Injuries have struck the club at the wrong time, with O’Neil’s attack broken down due to key absences, seeing Wolves’ form take a dip ahead of the run-in to the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

With seven games remaining of the season, attention will soon turn to the transfer window, where Molineux will expect to see changes in both the incomings and outgoings.

While the boss has made it clear recently that his squad requires reinforcements in the summer, there has also been a host of rumours to suggest that some of the clubs’ best are attracting interest from elsewhere.

Arsenal are plotting a summer move for one of Wolves’ best players

A lot has been said about the future of Pedro Neto, who started the season swimmingly by recording eight goal contributions in his opening 10 Premier League games.

That being said, talks have dispersed slightly as the 24-year-old continues to recover from another injury however, attention hasn’t been drawn away from another one of Wolves’ best.

As reported by Sport Witness, Arsenal are plotting to make an offer for Joao Gomes in the summer, with Manchester United also said to be admirers of the midfielder.

The report states that the Gunners ‘may make an offer’ for the Brazilian when the summer window opens, with their interest presented to be ‘more serious’ than United’s.

It’s added that no fee has been uttered surrounding the speculation however, it only reinforces the challenges Wolves could face in the summer to retain their best players.

It’s not surprising that Joao Gomes is attracting transfer interest

Lauded as “fearless” by U23 scout Antonio Mango earlier in the season, Gomes has shown his worth since making the move to Molineux back in January 2023.

Only Joao Palhinha and Vinicius Souza have made more tackles than the 23-year-old in the Premier League this season, portraying just how formidable his presence has been in O’Neil’s midfield this term.

Gomes’ progression saw him earn an international call-up last month, where he started his first two games in a Brazil shirt to cap off what has been a career-elevating year for the former Flamengo warrior.

It’s not a surprise that clubs are swarming around the youngster’s movements ahead of the summer, with him proving his worth at Premier League level as both a combative force and a player capable of moving upfield.

It would be a significant loss to O’Neil to lose Gomes however, with a club as financially capable as Arsenal involved, the Old Gold could make a significant profit with a potential sale.
