'Watching from Madrid': Toni Kroos makes Arsenal prediction ahead of Bayern Munich clash tonight

Arsenal have got themselves in a great position in the Premier League, and now it’s time for the Gunners to show what they’re made of in the Champions League.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal charges ultimately made light work of Brighton on Saturday evening to return to the top of the table.

And then, on Sunday, Liverpool failed to win at Manchester United to miss out on the opportunity to get back to the summit.

Now, Arsenal will turn their attention to the Champions League, where they face one of their old bogey teams in the quarter-finals of the competition.

The first leg sees the Gunners host Bayern Munich at the Emirates Stadium, and Arsenal will surely fancy their chances of getting a positive result.

Clashes between the two used to be fairly commonplace in the Champions League back in the 2010s, and Bayern usually prevailed in the ties.

Indeed, the Bavarians have won each of their last three games against Arsenal by a 5-1 score-line.

However, Arsenal are now a title-challenging powerhouse, while Bayern are set to relinquish their near-monopoly over the Bundesliga title this year.

Obviously you could argue that, with the Bundesliga now out of the picture, Bayern will work extra hard to salvage the Champions League from their season.

It’ll no doubt be an intriguing tie, and it’s difficult to make a prediction on just how Arsenal will fare.

What has Toni Kroos said about Arsenal v Bayern Munich?

According to Vibe with FIVE co-host and Gunners fan Joel Beya, Bayern cult hero Toni Kroos expects a tough game from Arteta and his troops.

Beya said of the Real Madrid star: “I asked him (Kroos), I said what were your thoughts on Arsenal this season?”

“He said we were solid, he is watching from Madrid, and he expects us to give Munich a difficult time.

“It’s his former team, but he expect us to give them a difficult time.”

Arsenal v Bayern Munich team news

Arsenal have pretty much a clean bill of health for the Bayern match, with just Jurrien Timber – who has been recovering from a long-term injury – likely to miss out.

Meanwhile, Bayern have been boosted by the potential return of five players to their ranks ahead of the Arsenal match.

Aleksandar Pavlovic, Kingsley Coman, Leroy Sane, Manuel Neuer and Noussair Mazraoui all missed Saturday’s shock defeat to Heidenheim.

However, the quintet all took part in training on Monday morning in Munich, so they could well be back in the XI or matchday squad.

Arsenal v Bayern is set to kick off at 8pm BST on Tuesday night, with the return leg scheduled at Bayern’s Allianz Arena for Wednesday 17 April at 8pm BST.
