Report: Wolves could let 'super' 23-year-old go this summer if £43m offer arrives, as PL giant join hunt

Wolves could reportedly be tempted to cash in on a key player this summer, if an offer of at least £43 million arrives.

Wanderers fans are hoping for a very different transfer window this time around, after watching a number of top stars leave the club last year as part of a book-balancing exercise.

Wolves have struggled financially recently, and player sales have been necessary so as not to fall foul of PSR.

This summer, it is thought that there will be a bit more freedom to spend. However, there have been claims that Wolves could still make a big sale or two.

Sporting director Matt Hobbs did recently say this, suggesting it would be more preferable to sell one player for big money, rather than a few for smaller fees.

Today, Joao Gomes has been linked with a move to Arsenal – and a further claim has now been made about the Brazilian…

Today, it has been claimed that Arsenal have now joined the hunt for Gomes, who has produced a string of impressive performances for Wolves this season.

Manchester United were previously linked, and it could well be that Wolves face a battle to keep hold of the player known as ‘The Pitbull’ this summer.

Football Transfers have reported this afternoon that Gomes is wanted by United, who are also looking at Andre of Fluminense.

They claim that Wolves could be tempted to cash in on Gomes if they receive an offer north of £43 million. This is just under three times what Wolves paid to sign the player from Flamengo in January 2023.

But it is also stated that ‘a lot will depend on whether the club receive an offer for Pedro Neto first’.

Neto has been outstanding for Wolves this season when he hasn’t been on the treatment table, and is known to be a long-term target for Arsenal.

Many Wolves fans are expecting that he will be the next big name player to leave Molineux.

Wolves must try to keep Gomes, and £43m is nowhere near enough

Wolves should absolutely not be looking to entertain offers for their ‘super talent’ Gomes this summer, because he can get so much better and increase his market value considerably.

It is little wonder that big clubs are showing interest in him, because the 23-year-old has incredible potential and already looks right at home in the Premier League.

But Wolves need to hang onto him a little while longer. Offers of £43 million really should not cut it – Gomes is worth much more than this, and the club should not be tempted to sell even if no one comes in for Neto, which feels unlikely.

It would be a serious error to cash in on Gomes this summer. If anyone has to be sold then it should be Neto. The winger’s value may not get any higher at Wolves than it is currently, but Gomes’ definitely will.
