TalkSPORT pundit believes only Cole Palmer has been better than 24-year-old at Chelsea this season

There is no doubt about who is going to win the Chelsea Player of the Year award.

Cole Palmer has been the best footballer at Chelsea this season and by some distance. You only have to look at his numbers to know that.

In 37 appearances for the Blues, the attacker has scored 19 goals and provided 13 assists.

What about Chelsea’s best player after Palmer? That has probably been either Malo Gusto or Conor Gallagher.

They have been two of Chelsea’s most consistent players after Palmer anyway. The former missed the Blues’ 2-2 draw with Sheffield United on Sunday, but Mauricio Pochettino explained it was not because of anything serious.

Scott Minto names Chelsea’s best player after Cole Palmer

Gusto has done a good job at Chelsea this season, filling in for the injured Reece James.

The Frenchman has managed to register eight assists in all competitions, which is pretty good for a right-back.

As for Gallagher, he has really impressed defensively. According to the Premier League’s official website, the midfielder has made 70 tackles this season, the 13th most in the division.

Former Chelsea defender Scott Minto thinks he has been the Blues’ best player after Palmer.

Speaking about his old side on talkSPORT, Minto said: “I do like Enzo Fernandez. He’s a World Cup winner. I saw him when he was at Benfica and he’s a fantastic talent.

“[Moises] Caicedo, a lot of money has been spent on him and I hate to talk about a price tag, but I think he struggles to deal with the pressure because we’re not seeing that form that he had in Brighton.

“Cole Palmer’s nothing short of sensational and Conor Gallagher’s probably been the second-best player for Chelsea this season.”

Has Conor Gallagher really been Chelsea’s second-best player this season?

You can certainly make an argument for it. And if he has not, then again, the Englishman has definitely been one of the team’s most consistent performers.

Gallagher has made just over 40 appearances for Chelsea this term and has the second-highest average match rating in his squad (7.06) on WhoScored. Only Palmer has recorded a higher rating (7.34).

The 24-year-old is perhaps not the flashiest player on the pitch, but he does his job.

It would be a bit of a setback if Chelsea sold him this summer, which looks like a possibility as he approaches the final 12 months of his contract.
