'Out of order': Rio Ferdinand amazed by what Harry Kane did against Arsenal on Tuesday night

Rio Ferdinand has suggested that what Harry Kane did during the first-half of Bayern Munich’s clash with Arsenal was almost out of order as the two sides perfectly set the stage for the second-leg of their Champions League tie.

Bayern proved a point at the Emirates. Many may have assumed that it was going to be a long night for Thomas Tuchel’s side when Bukayo Saka broke the deadlock.

But the game turned on its head before half-time. Serge Gnabry equalised after some sloppy play in the Arsenal defence.

And after Leroy Sane was brought down inside the penalty area by William Saliba, Harry Kane was given the chance to put Bayern ahead.

Kane did what he has done in so many North London derbies previously, finding the back of the net. But the manner of the finish left Rio Ferdinand stunned.

The England captain appeared to delay his kick until David Raya had given away which way he was diving. And once he knew, Kane calmly rolled the ball over the line, leaving Raya with more than enough time to look back and agonisingly watch the ball go past.

Speaking on TNT Sports (broadcast on 9/4; 20:55), Rio Ferdinand suggested that he could not believe the audacity of the finish.

“Harry Kane pea-rolled that in. That’s like an under-9s penalty. Out of order really at the Emirates,” he said.

A rare positive for Bayern Munich this season

Kane is playing with so much confidence right now. While it has been a miserable season for Bayern, he has now scored 39 times across the league and Champions League.

He is someone who always steps up when his side need him. And he would have been aware that David Raya would have done his homework on his penalties.

Kane does like to lift them down the middle. But it is not often that he opts to roll the ball as he did on Tuesday.

It was certainly a reminder, if anyone needed it, of why Kane is one of the world’s best finishers.
