Report: 48-year-old manager is 'seriously interested' in replacing Erik ten Hag at Manchester United

Erik ten Hag’s future as Manchester United manager remains up in the air.

The Red Devils haven’t had a great season at all, have they? They are 10 points behind where they were at the same stage last term and their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League are almost dead.

Manchester United are not expected to make any changes imminently, but Ten Hag’s future at the club will be up for debate at the end of this season.

If Sir Jim Ratcliffe does decide to get rid of the Dutchman, one manager is reportedly ready to take charge of Manchester United this summer.

Manager is ‘seriously interested’ in Manchester United job

Manchester United are one of the biggest clubs in the world.

The Red Devils are among the most successful clubs in football, but they just haven’t been the same force they were when Sir Alex Ferguson was at the helm.

Erik ten Hag had a bit of success in his debut season. His Manchester United side finished third in the Premier League and also won the League Cup.

There was hope that the Red Devils would kick on this season, but things have not gone to plan at all.

So, Ten Hag’s future is up in the air, and a number of names have already been linked with the Old Trafford hot seat over the last few weeks.

Gareth Southgate’s name has come up a few times, while Roberto De Zerbi is also said to be a contender to become the next Manchester United manager.

Now, GiveMeSport have claimed that Graham Potter is ‘seriously interested’ in replacing Ten Hag if the Dutchman gets sacked this summer.

Potter, 48, has been out of a job since he was shown the door at Chelsea just over a year ago. Reports have claimed that Sir Jim Ratcliffe thinks really highly of him.

What Pep Guardiola once said about Graham Potter is very interesting

Graham Potter may not be the name that will excite many Manchester United fans. Gary Neville clearly doesn’t want him.

The 48-year-old had a really poor time at Chelsea, where he won just 12 of his 31 games in charge before he was shown the door last April.

However, the Blues were in a mess back then and they still are. Potter should not be judged on his time at Stamford Bridge – instead, his work at Brighton should be used to determine whether he would be a good fit.

Potter did a great job at the Amex, so much so that even Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, who is arguably the best manager in the world, was impressed by him.

He said in November 2022: “No one has success from day one or two, I have a lot of admiration for his work. What he did at Brighton was beyond exceptional and I’m pretty sure with time he will do a good job, I don’t have any doubts.

“He is one of the best managers from my point of view, we have in this league.”
