Fabrizio Romano shares what he expects Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk to do after Liverpool hire a new manager

Liverpool are coming up on a huge summer of change across the football club.

Obviously, there’s always a period of adaptation whenever there’s a new manager brought in. But when the man going in the opposite direction is someone of the calibre of Jurgen Klopp, it’s going to mean virtually everything is different.

As we know, Klopp’s coaching team are also heading out of the door with him. This will create a feeling of freshness, but also of uncertainty.

And if all of that wasn’t enough, doubt also surrounds the futures of both Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. As two of Liverpool’s absolute key players, a pair who Jamie Carragher called ‘untouchable,‘ the new Reds manager could really do with them staying put.

However, there has been speculation that that isn’t going to happen. With just a year left to run on both players’ deals, this is a big summer for them. As the end of the season draws ever closer, journalist Fabrizio Romano has shared what he now sees happening for both Salah and Van Dijk.

What’s going on with Salah and Van Dijk

Rumours have once again ramped up this week that Salah will be subject to a massive offer from Saudi Arabia over the summer.

Van Dijk meanwhile has been said to have potential offers of his own from the Middle East.

So, while Liverpool step up their efforts to sort out who exactly will be replacing Klopp, Romano has explained what he expects to happen via his Daily Briefing this morning.

“There’s been speculation about what the manager change might mean for Liverpool players like Mohamed Salah, but I don’t expect him to decide anything before the new manager comes in,” says the reporter.

“I expect him to take some time – it’s normal for players to take their time to look at what a club wants to do in terms of their project, their ideas, so for Salah and others like Virgil van Dijk it’s a normal process, they’re waiting to understand what’s next.”

Will Salah and Van Dijk stay at Liverpool

Obviously, we don’t know exactly what’s going on in the heads of these two, superstar players.

However, the feeling has long been that this could be Salah’s last year at Liverpool. Klopp’s unexpected departure may have only cemented that idea. Unfortunately, that feels likely.

In terms of Van Dijk, things are a little different. Had the manager stayed put, there’s surely no chance the newly appointed captain would have been leaving. A new deal would have been a priority, too.

So, in terms of who follows Klopp, we’d say it will have far more bearing for Virgil than Mo. It would be nice if the pair could commit to the club regardless of who comes in. But you can also understand their need for clarity. Let’s hope some is provided soon enough.
