‘That’s on you’: Thierry Henry says ‘clever’ Arsenal player made a big mistake last night

Arsenal had a frustrating evening on Tuesday night as they surrendered a lead to draw with Bayern Munich at the Emirates.

The north London club would’ve fancied their chances of getting a result against Bayern Munich at home, but, unfortunately, the game didn’t go to plan.

Bayern were electric on the night, while Arsenal’s key players seemed to freeze on the big stage.

Speaking on CBS, Thierry Henry has been reviewing this game, and he reckons that Declan Rice made a big mistake on the night with Bayern Munich’s first goal.

Declan Rice’s big mistake

Henry reviewed the first goal and he reckons Rice made a mistake in giving the ball away and then being too eager to win the ball back.

“If he stays here and sees the guys in front of him nothing happens. But when you lose the ball you want to go. He is clever, but on that one he was not, play it,” Henry said.

“You can’t. He’s aware of Gnabry coming, it is a hell of a pass, but you can’t let that come, it’s Leroy Sane on the ball not a guy at the bottom of the Premier League. It’s not the same game. That’s on you, you shouldn’t lose that ball, I’m just saying that Declan Rice had a particular moment.”

Declan Rice hasn’t been here before

Declan Rice is obviously a fantastic footballer, but as Henry says, there’s a massive difference between playing Premier League and Champions League knockout football.

This is the first time that Rice has played against a top team at this level in this competition, and he didn’t quite make the step up as easily as he would’ve liked to.

Experience is everything in this game, and hopefully, Rice will head into the second leg better prepared to deal with the challenge that lies ahead of him.

Arsenal have an uphill battle on their hands in this second leg, that’s for sure.
