'I don't think he's got it': Jamie Carragher says 24-year-old Liverpool man will never be a very top player

Liverpool blinked first this weekend in dropping points in the title race as they couldn’t quite pick the win up over Manchester United.

The Reds couldn’t get over the line despite dominating for much of the game.

Despite going ahead through Luis Diaz, Liverpool allowed United back into the game in the second 45 and had a Mo Salah penalty late on to thank for snatching the point.

Of course, Liverpool had plenty of the ball and with that, plenty of chances. Overall, the performance was tremendous in the main and they simply couldn’t put the Red Devils to bed.

For Liverpool, key to their attacking play is how well their main attackers do and the ability they have to take chances when it matters.

Obviously, Darwin Nunez gets plenty of attention for missing chances.

And after missing a few today again,Jamie Carragher has suggested that the Uruguayan will never quite get to the level of the very top forwards in the world.

Jamie Carragher says Darwin Nunez can’t ever be the top man

Speaking about Nunez and his impact on Liverpool on theGary Neville podcast last night, Carragher had some praise for Nunez in term of what he offers.

However, when it comes to being a top goal scorer, Carragher believes that Nunez just simply won’t ever have it in his game to get to that level.

“Listen, when you look at Liverpool and namely Nunez, he’s not going to change what he is. He is what he is. He’s going to miss chances, look dangerous at times. But that really clinical edge of the very top players, I don’t think he’s got that and I don’t think he ever will. That’s Mo Salah’s role in the team,” Carragher said.

Nunez’s form this season has been hit and miss but he’s still just two away from hitting the 20 goal mark.

Further, Nunez has registered an impressive 13 assists as well, showing very much that he is a team player.

But Carragher is correct here in terms of Nunez not having that killer mentality in front of goal.

This weekend we saw Erling Haaland get his goal, despite being out of form by his own high standards.

Nunez needs to try and get towards that and while he did get an assist today, he could and should have had a goal which, in turn, would have put the game to bed.
