'Shambles': Pat Nevin thinks the Premier League will 'most certainly' do now after docking Everton points

Everton have enjoyed the consistent support of a few key names throughout this entire PSR scandal.

From politicians to media personalities, the Toffees have needed others to step up during periods where they were clearly forced to keep quiet.

Only able to initially voice their displeasure with the latest deduction before retreating into the shadows to plan their appeal, once this is all over we might actually see some true emotions emerge from this within the club.

But for now they must rely on the likes of Andy Burnham or Kevin Campbell to get across various widely-supported points, with Pat Nevin the latest to weigh in.

Pat Nevin takes aim at the Premier League

Speaking to BBC Sport, the former Everton and Chelsea winger would offer the following summation of the former’s deduction.

He noted: ‘Everton have had another two points taken off them. It is painful, losing 10, getting four back and then losing another two.

‘This entire story has felt like a shambles on all sides.

‘As the rules change – and they most certainly will radically again – will teams who fall foul in future suffer the same extreme punishments?

‘I doubt it, which will mean and feel like Everton, and to a degree Nottingham Forest, will have been singled out for especially egregious treatment.

‘I hope this is now over, but I suspect the more that rules are being made and then judged by people with no feel for or love of the game, the more ludicrous and unfair the future of the game will be.

‘The Premier League is a fantastic product that the world loves, despite – not because of – what the game’s controllers are currently doing.’

Everton could face a THIRD points deduction…

Whilst Nevin seeks to predict what the Premier League might do in the future, in reality, nobody knows.

The completely inconsistent nature of their actions throughout this process is one of the outstanding reasons behind such frustration from fans, who have been left feeling like their club is being harshly punished in order to put a point across.

Burnham emphasised this when he recently lambasted Richard Masters for using the Toffees as a pawn in his PR battle.

And so, this second deduction does not mark the end, as we still have no clue whether they will continue their crusade to topple Everton.

The lack of set-in-stone rules makes it so the Premier League can adapt and distort the guidelines however they see fit, and thus far they have done so with ease.

So, it should come as no surprise thatone report even suggested that a third points deduction could be just around the corner, which would start Sean Dyche’s men on minus points going into next season.
