Exclusive: Newcastle flew out scouts to watch four players this weekend including £60m 'superstar'

It looks like being a busy summer for Newcastle United.

Though FFP limitations will seemingly likely remain in play for Newcastle this summer, a big rebuild has been predicted.

After the relentless injury crisis this season, few would doubt Eddie Howe’s squad has looked a little stale at times.

While it remains unclear as to how much money PIF can spend, particularly with the club almost certainly not playing Champions League football next season, investment is surely needed.

Indeed, Newcastle were reportedly on the hunt for defensive signings even before the long-term injuries to both Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles.

In midfield, Bruno Guimaraes may potentially need replacing amid a begrudging acceptance the Brazilian may to have leave amid strong interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

Up front, Howe issaid to be keen on a player able to operate across the frontline, with the futures of Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson in doubt.

With the summer transfer window fast approaching and business needing to be done, Newcastle are already on the hunt for new signings.

Newcastle flew scouts to watch four Feyenoord players this weekend

Sources have told Geordie Boot Boys that Newcastle had scouts in attendance as Feyenoord thrashed bitter rivals Ajax 6-0 in Rotterdam.

One of the players watched was of course Newcastle loanee Yankuba Minteh, who bagged a brace. It is believed that the club still want to assess the winger upon his return to St James’ Park in order to determine whether or not he is ready for life in the Premier League.

Minteh, however, wasn’t the only subject of the scouting mission.

GBB has been told that defender Lutsharel Geertruida, midfielder Quinten Timber (who’s twin brother Jurrien plays for Arsenal) and striker Santiago Gimenez were also monitored.

Timber joined Minteh on the scoresheet in a famous win for the club, while both Geertruida and Gimenez recorded an assist.

Newcastle could fix a lot of problems with triple Feyenoord swoop

Timber could potentially bolster a midfield which may lose Guimaraes this summer, whileGeertruida is able to operate the backline. Howe has spoken in glowing terms about players with versatility and the 23-year-old would provide that.

Gimenez, meanwhile, has scored 24 times while registering a further six assists in 38 appearances across all competitions this season.

Signing the Mexico international, however, may prove difficult. Hailed as a “superstar” during his time in the Netherlands, previous reports from The Guardian have suggested the 22-year-old is rated at around £60m.
