Police dog catches drugged-up driver who fled on foot in Theale

A POLICE dog called Conan helped catch and detain a drugged-up fugitive.

The man, who had led officers on a high speed car chase, is believed to have been high on cocaine.

At around 10.30pm on Tuesday, April 9, a pursuit was authorised on the M4 eastbound near junction 16 following intelligence on a vehicle and concerns over the manner of the driving.

The vehicle failed to stop for officers from Wiltshire Police’s roads policing unit and was pursued to junction 12 for Theale, where he was halted through a tactical stop.

The man then made off on foot, but was successfully detained by Conan.

The suspect, a Swansea man in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

He then failed a drugs wipe and was further arrested for driving under the influence of cocaine.

He remains in custody for questioning.
