Thomas Tuchel left 'angry' after 'huge decision' let Arsenal off during draw to Bayern

Thomas Tuchel was left fuming at full-time after the referee seemingly let Arsenal off from conceding a second penalty against Bayern Munich.

The German giants took a 2-1 lead going into the second-half with Serge Gnabry haunting his old club as Harry Kane typically scored from the penalty spot against Arsenal.

With the Gunners fighting back to draw 2-2, it was a game where the result could have gone either way, with Arsenal also potentially unlucky not to win a late penalty when Bukayo Saka was tripped by Manuel Neuer.

Yet speaking to the press via Sam Dean, Tuchel was left fuming that Bayern weren’t awarded a penalty in the second-half when Gabriel Magalhaes clearly handled the ball from a David Raya goal kick.

With the referee allegedly telling players that Bayern should have been given a spot-kick for the mistake, Arsenal seemingly got away with one big time at the Emirates Stadium last night.

Given that Arsenal themselves missed out on a blatant penalty, many would consider this other slip-up from the referee as a justice of sorts given the huge stakes on the line.

Tuchel said: “He [the referee] told our players it is a kid’s mistake and he will not give a penalty like this in a quarter-final. We feel angry. It’s a huge decision against us.”

Last night’s encounter was certainly an interesting one, with Arsenal and Bayern both feeling they could have come away with a win and a key advantage in this tie.

Yet with the referee channeling his inner Premier League chaos, it will be all to play for next week in Munich, where Arsenal will be kicking themselves over last night’s result in north London.

Indeed, the Gunners will need to have one of their best games this season if they’re to win against Bayern, and Arsenal will and Munich will both hope the referee is on his game.
