Report: Mauricio Pochettino doesn't think two Chelsea players signed in 2023 are good enough to start long-term

If you look at the current Chelsea squad, you’re well entitled to think there’s a good portion of the current group that may never be good enough at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues fans won’t need reminding the team only finished 12th in the Premier League table last year. As it stands, Chelsea are heading for a second consecutive year without European football because they sit ninth.

Mauricio Pochettino desperately needs his team to try find some consistency in the next two months to save the season.

Chelsea duo not long-term options for Mauricio Pochettino

GiveMeSport has reported in the last 24 hours that Chelsea head coach Pochettino has question marks against both Djordje Petrovic and Robert Sanchez.

The report claims that he doesn’t view Chelsea goalkeepers Petrovic and Sanchez as the long-term solution for the No 1 position at the club.

It is explained that the Blues have identified they need to sign a new and improved keeper in the transfer market.

Petrovic and Sanchez, who both joined Chelsea in 2023, have been competing this campaign to be the first-choice goalkeeper. It sounds like they’ve each failed their audition and not done enough to convince Pochettino in the dugout.

Djordje Petrovic and Robert Sanchez miss glorious opportunity

First of all, Petrovic has played 22 matches during this debut year at Chelsea. The Serbian shot-stopper only has four clean sheets and doesn’t possess the biggest presence on the pitch, though.

It’s the 24-year-old’s first year playing in the Premier League following his move from the MLS, but he’s now allowing individual mistakes to sneak into his game.

Sanchez, 26, has been a disappointment since joining from Brighton last year.

The Spaniard has five clean sheet in 21 Blues appearances, but his main issue is his struggles playing out from the back.

We agree that both shot-stoppers haven’t been good enough when presented with a fair chance to nail down the position as the main goalkeeper at our club.
