Millwall boss Neil Harris disagrees with what Leicester fans might be saying after last night's defeat

Millwall claimed a 1-0 victory over league leaders Leicester City last night.

It was an uninspiring performance from Enzo Maresca‘s side, who lacked fluidity going forward for much of the encounter.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall struggled to get into the game as the midfield became very congested, with Maresca making a slight tweak to his usual system.

Ryan Longman’s spectacular curling effort just before the hour mark turned out to be the winner, as Leicester failed to level the scores despite a late onslaught.

The Lions boss Neil Harris was quick to rubbish any potential claims that City deserved to gain a point, speaking post-match.

Harris was re-appointed Millwall boss in February, tasked with the job of keeping the South East London club up.

Victory for his side on Tuesday evening moved them four points clear of the relegation zone and he believed they were well worth the three points.

“Leicester might say they deserved a point from creating the chances they did – three chances in 88, 90 and 94, whatever it was – but we could’ve won 7-1 at Rotherham,” Harris said.

“We could say Michael Obafemi had a one-on-one second half and we had chances in the first half to score.

“To play against arguably the best team in the league and limit them to very little in the first 85 minutes was very impressive by the group.”

The hosts were fantastic defensively, as Harris quite rightly pointed out, so few Foxes fans would argue that they didn’t deserve to win, in fairness.

Tom Cannon deserves a chance for Leicester City

Leicester only really created anything of note in the dying embers of the clash and it was Patson Daka who had perhaps the best chance of all.

The Zambia international has been profligate in recent weeks and his miscued header in stoppage time amplified that notion.

His effort embodied a player who lacked confidence, as he snatched at the glorious opportunity to equalise.

Tom Cannon is a player fans have been crying out to see of late and it’s hard to imagine him missing a chance like that.

So Maresca has to utilise his £7.5m striker heading into the run-in, with The Foxes in no position to drop any more points.

They reside just one point ahead of third-placed Ipswich Town, who face off against Watford this evening.
