'Impressive' former Leicester City ace's struggles continue as bizarre statistic now emerges - opinion

One former Leicester City ace is enduring a torrid time since leaving the East Midlands club in the January transfer window.

Leicester City are flying high at the summit of the Championship table and the good feeling is back at King Power Stadium after picking up back-to-back wins.

The Foxes went through a tricky patch over the last few weeks and fell out of the top two for a time, with Ipswich Town and Leeds United surpassing them.

But now, after defeating Birmingham City 2-1 on Monday, they’ve reclaimed their title as league leaders and look well-placed to make an instant return to the Premier League.

With that said, one former Fox must really regret departing the club.

Cesare Casadei was highly sought after last summer so when Leicester managed to secure his services on loan from Chelsea, it was regarded as a real coup.

The goalscoring midfielder had just starred at the under-20 World Cup with Italy, picking up the Golden Ball and Golden Boot.

Though, having joined with such a glowing reputation, that started to dwindle somewhat among City supporters after a number of below-par displays.

But when Wilfred Ndidi suffered an injury, the ‘impressive’ midfielder managed to get himself back in the starting line-up and was starting to show exactly why he was so well-regarded in the game.

To the surprise of many, however, his loan deal was cut short by Chelsea as they felt he could make an immediate impact at the club, as per Fabrizio Romano.

Since returning to West London, Casadei has made just four appearances, playing a total of 17 minutes, which makes you wonder whether he regrets departing Leicester mid-season.

Cesare Casadei bizarre Chelsea statistic

A bizarre statistic has just emerged and it doesn’t make for great reading at all.

It was found that in three of Casadei’s four Chelsea appearances, The Blues conceded shortly after he came on as a substitute.

Indeed, it may just be a coincidence, but notwithstanding that, there may be something in it if you look a little closer.

The towering midfielder is a physically imposing player, though, that seems to come at the cost of his mobility.

So often, at Leicester, particularly, he seemed to struggle to get up to the intensity of the game and sometimes wasn’t agile enough to compete in the midfield.

Perhaps he’s just not suited to coming on as a sub, particularly if he takes a period to adapt to the fast-paced nature of the game.

Anyhow, leaving Leicester certainly hasn’t helped his career development.
